Can you imagine the weight of about 125 semi-trucks, but in gold? Approximately, 10 million pounds, or $236.4 billion, of gold is held at the Fort Knox Bullion Depository, also known as the “gold vault,” in Fort Knox, Kentucky. The vault holds more than half of the gold reserves of the United States making the protection of the contents of the vault a top priority for the contractors and architects tasked with reroofing it.

To complete the job, the United States Department of the Treasury chose Barrett’s RamTough 250 to reroof the vault. RamTough was chosen based upon the dependable and time-proven performance it has provided the government on hundreds of important projects such as the White House in Washington, D.C., and the Lincoln Memorial.
The building contractor, Swift Roofing, used the RamTough 250 DM PMR protected membrane roof system. It is a hot-applied rubberized asphalt membrane which exhibits excellent adhesion to horizontal and vertical surfaces and forms a robust monolithic waterproof system that does not allow water to migrate under the membrane.
